Linda M Farquharson specialises in relief printmaking; linocuts and wood engravings. She works from her bothy studio in the heart of the Perthshire countryside. Her work follows many themes often with rural connections – country pursuits, animals, and birds are all favourite subjects for her prints that have a strong sense of shape, colour and pattern. Her most recent work is mostly black and white with just one added colour and has been inspired by the epic poem “Paradise Lost” by John Milton.
An original print is an image created from hand cut or drawn printing blocks, plates or stencils that are used to produce a limited number of prints. The artist or the printing process itself determines the number produced. Linda’s prints are made by cutting an image into linoleum or boxwood to create a relief surface. Ink is applied to the block and then printed on to the paper using a Columbian Press.
After graduating in 1986 Linda Farquharson worked for several years as a commercial
illustrator undertaking commissions for design and advertising companies using her printmaking skills. In 1990 she purchased and restored a Columbian press, which has pride of place in her bothy studio. In 1988 she had her first solo exhibition and has continued to exhibit throughout the UK ever since.
