I first encountered pottery when I was about 11 years old and my parents took me to visit Ewenny Pottery in Wales. I was captivated and went on to study ceramics in teacher training college, gaining a B.Ed in Ceramics.
My first studio was in Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. Following that I taught and had studios in a variety of locations.
Some twenty years ago I became interested in slipware and made the switch from stoneware to earthenware.
I now produce a range of domestic pottery in slipware with sgraffito decoration. These are coloured using oxides and some underglaze colours. I base my decoration on themes from natural history and medieval manuscripts.
My work is influenced by North Devon and continental slipware. I particularly like the motto wares of North Devon and use script on the majority of my work. I see this as an important design element of my work.
