artworks by  Elizabeth Gilbey

Elizabeth Gilbey is a figurative artist and the owner and teacher at Rusko Studio, a rural art school, teaching classical methods in landscape and still life.  The studio is based in Dumfries and Galloway and Elizabeth exhibits and sells locally and in London.

“Living and working in Dumfries and Galloway shapes my practice profoundly with every passing year. I am strongly influenced by local artists past and present. The work of Edward Walton and that of Samual Peploe and  Frances Cadell of the Kirkcudbright Artists’ Colony; pastels by Lena Alexander and the work of current artist, Ewan McClure all find echoes in my work. The landscape of the area plays an increasing role with many days spent outdoor painting. The art history of the area is a rich source of ideas and visions of how to interpret nature in paint and dry media.”
