Artworks by William Leighton Leitch RI RWS VPRI 1804-1883

Born Glasgow, died St John't Wood London. An early love of art had been fostered by meeting Horatio McCulloch and Sir Daniel MacNee. Began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1841.

In 1854, because of ill health, he visited Italy for four months. From 1846 he became Queen Victoria's drawing master and gave her art lessons for over 20 years.
